Mountain Biking

Mountain biking includes a variety of off-road disciplines such as Cross-Country Olympic (XCO), Cross-Country Marathon (XCM), Short Track Cross-Country (XCC), and Enduro. Events take place on trails, over rough terrain, with formats ranging from mass start to timed segments.

  • Cross Country Olympic (XCO)
  • Cross Country Eliminator (Sprint) (XCE)
  • Cross Country Point to Point (XCP)
  • Cross Country Time Trial (XCT)
  • Cross Country Short Track (XCT)
  • Cross Country Enduro (XCM) – Marathons/24-hour races
  • Cross Country Team Relay (XCR)

To participate in mountain bike races in Manitoba:

  • You must have a valid UCI Race License or Manitoba Provincial Race License.
  • Youth participants in the Kids of Mud program can race in all youth categories with their Kids of Mud license (new in 2025).
  • Non-Kids of Mud youth and Non-Licensed adult riders may participate in select events with the purchase of a Day Permit (check individual event details).

Volunteers Make It Happen
Mountain bike events wouldn’t be possible without the time and energy of volunteers. From planning to race-day support, volunteers are instrumental to the success of every event. If you’re passionate about growing mountain biking in Manitoba, consider joining the MTB Committee.

Bison Butte” is the Mountain Bike Trail development at FortWhyte Alive in Winnipeg which was created for the 2017 Canada Summer Games. These free of charge, multi-purpose, recreational trails are open to the public. The Mountain Bike trails have very technical sections including steep ascents, rock climbs, jumps, and drops. Choose only trails that suit your skill and fitness level.
