MB Summer Games Update: Registration for qualifier races & FAQ

Attention:

Parents of athletes born between 2010 and 2013 who held an MCA license in either 2023 or 2024 and are now eligible to qualify for a spot on a regional team to compete in the MB Summer Games, here’s some information to address questions that have arisen since the last update.

How do you register for the qualifier races?

Great question, I’d love to tell you.

For the upcoming races, you would register your athlete when general registration opens up.  For each of the qualifying races, there will be a specific category for MB Summer Games U13 / U15 to select from the different options.  Athletes will need to have a race license and are often asked to enter the license# in the online registration form OR if offered by the race organizer a day permit (only 3 day permits per person are allowed before needing to purchase a race license).

I purchased a general MCA membership for my kid before they decided they wanted to race, how can I get a race license?

You can upgrade to a race license through the CCN bikes account once you have purchased the MCA licence.  Log into your account and select the purchase license (MB race or UCI) and the system will know and have you pay the price difference to upgrade.

Racers are expected to show their race license (paper or electronic) when signing in for the race.

How will I know when registration for a qualifier race is available?

I will be announcing when race registration for the qualifier events opens through social media posts/reels: FaceBook MB Kids of Mud, and Instagram and might be shared by Manitoba Cycling Association.   Event organizers will often post through their own social media channels when registration opens.

Due to the complexity of organizing a race it’s not unusual for registration to open up just a week before the race happens or online registration closes.  I recommend not waiting until the last minute before the registration window closes. Online registration usually closes at at 11:59 pm two days before race day so racer lists can be organized.

If you have a problem registering, you can reach out to the race organizer.  They want you to race and are there to help.

REGISTRATION for the Grand Prix of Grand Beach – our FIRST MB Summer Games qualifier event is now OPEN.

The organizers have created a great course for our young athletes as the first event: ~3.5 km per lap with ups and downs, twisty parts and a mixture of wide open areas and single track.  It’s a fun and completely rideable course.

Be sure to read the race guide for more details about race day schedule.

Something happened and I didn’t register in time, can I still sign up and race?

Possibly.  Contact the race organizer and let me know via email.  Same day registration for a race isn’t ideal and can be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Does my child need to participate in all 5 qualifier races?

No, but they need to participate in at least one qualifier race to be eligible to be selected for a Regional team and chances are better the more races they participate in.

Points will be awarded based on results of the qualifier races. Cumulative points for their best 4 of 5 race results and those that race in all 5 qualifier races will get 50 bonus points.
