The UCI Road World Championships 2012 in Limburg were declared ‘one of the best ever’.
Around 400,000 people visited the worlds during the week and Manitoba was proud to have 2 Athletes participate – Chris Prendergast, and Leah Kirchman both members of the Manitoba Provincial Cycling Team.
Leah raced 145km and placed 21rst in the Elite Women category. See Leah’s interview (here).
Chris’s Junior Men’s road race was 129km and unfortunately due to uncontrollable circumstances Chris got caught behind a crash and gapped from the main peloton. We know he would have poured his heart into the event and gained much from the experience, including one of his greatest memories – the Boersma family from Portage La Prairie who were there cheering him on from the sidelines. Chris is due to return to Winnipeg shortly after midnight on Friday morning.
Jayson Gillespie attended as coach for the Junior national team.
There is no doubt that all participants will have gained from their individual experience while in Limburg.
Congratulations to everyone for a great season. We look forward to celebrating your success !!
