The Officials’ Female Mentorship Program is a Sport Manitoba initiative dedicated to increasing the number of confident and competent female officials across our province. The program pairs passionate female officials with knowledgeable and experienced female mentors, with the goal of building lasting, supportive relationships that help sustain our female officiating community in Manitoba for years to come.

Mentees must self-identify as female, be a registered official with a Provincial Sport Organization, and have a minimum of one year of officiating experience.

Mentors must self-identify as female, be a registered official with a Provincial Sport Organization, have a minimum of five years of officiating experience, and be willing to share their knowledge and experience with a mentee.

We designed this program to meet people where they are at. Pairs can choose to meet virtually or in person, and can decide together whether that looks like once a month or twice a month. There is no single required format. The pace and structure of the relationship is up to the mentor and mentee.

Professional development in this program is shaped around what mentors and mentees actually want to get out of it. Areas of focus may include how to handle gendered comments on the field or court, how to progress through officiating ranks, and how to speak with confidence in high pressure moments. Sessions are built around the group’s interests rather than a fixed curriculum.

Beyond one-on-one mentorship, participants take part in shared professional development sessions as a group, giving officials from different sports and contexts a chance to meet and learn from one another. The program wraps up with a networking event where participants share a meal and spend time together outside of officiating.
