Team Central rode to first-place finishes in two of the four cycling races held at Sandilands Provincial Park Thursday.

Austin Legault and Zoe Penno won the boys and girls under-15 cross-country race on the trails of Suicide Hill. Legault’s time of 40:51 minutes was just one second better than silver medallist Auckland LeBrun of Winnipeg Blue. Grafton Hopkins, also of Winnipeg Blue, claimed bronze. In the girls race, Penno’s time of 39:36 clocked in at 42 seconds faster than Eastman’s Ciel Ferguson, who got silver. Interlake’s Ella Russell finished in third.

The under-13 boys race belonged to Eastman’s Lucas Thompson, who recorded a gold medal finish. Central’s Soren Westlake and Winnipeg Gold’s Keelan Fraser brought home silver and bronze medals respectively.

Winnipeg Blue’s Katherine Peters crossed the finish in a time of 26:59 minutes to take the gold in the under-13 female race. Winnipeg Gold’s Eryn Guenter and Central’s Mia Sawatsky are also medallists.

The cyclists are back Friday but this time in the north end of Steinbach at Blind Creek Trail for the short track events.
