Bison Butte – Volunteer Days: June 13 + July 18

Calling all community volunteers!!

We are asking for the communities help to kick-off the summer maintance activities at the Butte!

The Bison Butte trails are located within the city limits between Cabella/Ikea and FortWhyte Alive. The 6km of trails are open to the public and maintained by volunteers and thru grants obtained by Manitoba Cycling for approved work at the site.

Two Volunteer Dates:

  • Tuesday, June 13 starting at 5pm
  • Tuesday, July 18 starting at 5pm

Come for as short or as long as you can.  We will wrap up work by approx 8pm.

Where to meet:

Please meet us at the “seacan” to sign-in and get your assignment.

If driving, road access will be available off McCreary road.  Look for resident mailboxes.  A volunteer will be at the gate between 430-530pm to direct you.  Please drive in slowly in respect for the residents (and the bison!)  Google Map

If bike riding or walking access the site off the trans canada trail.

Duties include:

  • Garbage pick-up
  • Debris removal (or tagging for future removal)
  • Trail racking and packing (racking out ruts and smoothing the trail
  • Whipper sniping
  • Water delivery to volunteers
  • Sign-in/sign-out volunteer
  • Gate volunteer

Depending on volunteer numbers we will deploy small groups to work together on different sections of the hill.

Please bring:

  • Work gloves
  • Closed toe shoes
  • Hat
  • Water
  • Rake if you have one

Sign-in/Sign-out:

There is no need to register in advance, but please sign-in upon arrival and sign-out when you leave so we can account for everyone.
