MB Summer Games: Preparation Update

Hello MB Summer Games Families,

Race Uniforms

  • Race Jersey – These will be distributed to the Regional Team managers for further distribution to athletes.  Invoices for jersey payment will be sent via email to families.
  • Race shorts – please plan to have your athlete wear BLACK shorts (these can be padded bike shorts or regular shorts so long as they are black).

Bus Schedule

  • Some teams have chosen to coordinate so they board at the same bus stop to take the bus to Dauphin together.  The bus schedule is being finalized this week and will be disseminated to the team coach/managers.
  • For those leaving from a Winnipeg bus stop, they will be departing between 8:00 and 8:15 AM and most will have another stop along the way (Stonewall or Portage La Prairie).
  • Expect the arrival of the buses in Dauphin between 1:15-2:30 pm.
  • For athletes NOT taking the bus, they will be asked to check in between 2:30-3:00 pm at their respective athlete village (females at Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School; males at Mackenzie Middle School) to get their accreditation badge and meet their team coach/manager.

Bike transportation

  • For those who are transporting their athlete’s bike, please ensure you drop it off at the venue site between 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm on arrival day (Sun, Aug 11).
  • For those having MCA transport their athlete bike to the race venue, drop off is the day before (Sat, Aug 10th) and location will be pinned on google map and sent via text message.

Walkout uniform

  • Provided by Sport MB – Tshirt in colour of regional team, bucket hat.  These were pre-ordered based on the 2020 athletes so the sizing may be off.  Idea is that they will not be a perfect fit but fits well enough.  The coach/managers will pick up their team’s walkout uniforms on arrival day.

Opening Ceremonies

  • Sun, Aug 11 at 6:30 PM at Credit Union Place (indoors)
  • Teams will board buses at 5:15 PM to head to the opening ceremonies and will be staged onsite into their regional groups.  Families are welcome to attend the opening ceremonies.

Departure Day

  • All athletes/coaches/managers will need to leave their sleeping accommodations by 9 AM so they can clean and get the rooms ready for the inbound athletes for phase 2.  Luggage will need to be temporarily stored until ready to take the bus home.  Buses will leave ~2:30 PM.
  • There will be activities available while waiting for buses to arrive.
  • There will be “A Front of the Pack” athlete combine on departure day, Aug 14.  Sport MB will be having athlete testing (six tests – grip test, vertical jump, broad jump, push ups, agility pro, 30m sprint) for those who would like to participate.  The intention of the testing is to help identify athlete talent (similar to the RBC Training Ground testing https://www.rbctrainingground.ca/).
  • Testing will be done at 10 AM or 11 AM at the Athletics venue (DRCSS).
  • There will be a BBQ lunch at Credit Union Place at 12:30 PM for athletes.
  • Expect buses to arrive back in the athlete’s home communities/bus stops ~5:30- 7 pm
  • For those having their bikes brought back to Wpg, pick up will be available after 5 pm Aug 14th at the same location they were dropped off.
  • For those not taking the bus back to their home community, please coordinate with your coach/manager a time and location for departure from the Games and back into care of the athlete’s family.

Info for families

  • The coaches and managers will be invited to an orientation webinar and given an information package next week and will have more detailed info to pass along to athlete families in preparation for the games.
