This week is certainly an exciting one for cycling in Manitoba as athletes and spectators are literally bouncing up and down in anticipation of Dark Cross http://www.darkcross.ca/
If you been under a rock this fall and haven’t heard, all the latest Cross info can be found on the dedicated website, including the important category lists http://cxmb.blogspot.ca
Also, on Wednesday September 12th at the Belgium club you can get your 2012 Cyclocross Season Pass. This pass is a great idea because it makes everything simpler (pre-registered racer lists), cheaper (about 50% off race-day registrations) and more fun (the Belgium club!)
The Belgium club has been an iconic place for cycling in Manitoba for decades. For example, in 1950 the Belgium club was the finish line for Eric Oland Sr.’s record setting ride in the Canadian 100 kilometre team championship, in a blistering time of two hours and nine minutes! http://www.halloffame.mb.ca/honoured/1985/eOland.htm
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Cross Labs hosted by FGBC and Olympia Cycling Club will continue, with coverage under OCC’s insurance. No, the problems with integrating different insurance policies, especially when MCA members and non-members mix it up in the same event or race, still remain. So the CCC/Marsh/MCA insurance will not apply.
And this week, all around Winnipeg, you’ll see other coaches (e.g. Dave Dorning) and clubs (e.g. Alter Ego) leading MCA riders to local parks to find some grass, mud, hurdles, hills, stairs and trails. Final preparations are well underway for the best Cross season ever!
