Coach Training: Basic Cycling Skills – Winnipeg Saturday, May 4, 2024 @ 9:00 am- 5:00 pm

Basic Cycling Skills provides an opportunity for “on-bike” practice in skill teaching and analysis, coaching, and provided lesson plans. The program is simple, based on several pre-designed lesson plans, and adaptable to participants’ varying skill and ability levels. The program’s focus is on having participants develop skills that are basic to MTB, BMX, and Road, in a controlled, off-road, off-trail setting such as a sports field or parking lot. The Basic Cycling Skills course is cross-listed with the Intro to Competition & Community Initiation NCCP coaching stream.

PRE-REQUISITES FOR BASIC BIKE SKILLS:

  1. Tier 1: Program Volunteer Requirements must be met. 
    1. MCA General or Race Membership
    2. Coaches Code of Conduct (5 minutes on your own) No Cost.
    3. Respect in Sport
    4. Understanding Rule of Two (20 minutes on your own) No Cost.
    5. Criminal Record Check (15 minutes on your own) $25
  2. Cycling Foundations eLearning (1 hour on your own) $15:
  3. NCCP Emergency Action Plan (15 mins, on your own) No Cost

Course Instructor:

Alex Roger
Alex Roger is the Sport & Coach Development Specialist at Ontario Cycling. After launching HopOn in 2022, Alex oversees all program logistics/delivery, instructor training & partnership development at the community, club & grassroots levels. He is always interested in finding new opportunities & collaborations to deliver the HopOn program. In 2023, Alex & the HopOn team successfully delivered over 40 programs to 700+ youth in Ontario. As a Certified Learning Facilitator, he immensely enjoys delivering cycling workshops through Community, Club/Development & HopOn Instructor NCCP Pathways. Alex is very excited to begin supporting additional Provinces with HopOn & Coach Education starting this Spring!”
