Summer Job Opportunity - Bison Butte Trail Maintenance Crew
About Bison Butte
Bison Butte is a multi- use trail network located between FortWhyte Alive and Cabela’s / IKEA in Winnipeg, MB. The trail system is maintained through the support of the local mountain bike community and seasonal staff funded through government employment programs.
The trails are regularly used for:
- Mountain Biking
- Cycling Training
- Provincial Cycling Events
The network features rolling terrain, forested trails, and purpose-built mountain bike features.
Position Overview
We are seeking six (6) enthusiastic, reliable, and self-motivated individuals to join the Bison Butte Trail Maintenance Crew.
Position Details
- Employment Period: Mid-May to September
- Hours: Approximately 10-20 hours per week
- Wage: $16.00 / hour plus 4% vacation pay
- Supervisor: Site Supervisor
Previous trail maintenance experience is considered an asset but not required.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 29 years of age
- Be a Manitoba resident
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Not be receiving funding through another Provincial or Federal government employment program
Applicants under the age of 16 must provide a completed Young Worker Readiness Certificate.
Ineligible Applicants
The following individuals are not eligible:
- Immediate relatives of Manitoba Cycling Association staff, Board Members, or the Bison Butte Site Supervisor.
- Individuals with a financial interest in Manitoba Cycling or Bison Butte.
- Self-employed individuals, independent contractors, subcontractors, or commissioned salespersons.
Work Schedule
A work schedule will be established by the Site Supervisor. Staff can expect:
- Approximately 10-20 hours per week
- Shorter shifts
- Work scheduled over approximately 3-4 days per week
Employment Start Requirements
The following conditions must be met before employment can begin:
- Staff Documentation
All required employment paperwork must be submitted and approved at least one week prior to the start date. - Trail Conditions
Trail conditions must be dry and suitable for maintenance work. Conditions will be monitored regularly, and start date will be communicated as soon as practical. - Site Supervisor
A Site Supervisor must be in place before staff can begin work. - Safety Orientation
All hired staff must complete a mandatory safety orientation before starting work.
