Bicycle Motocross (BMX)

BMX is a cycling sport performed on BMX bikes, either in competitive BMX racing or freestyle BMX.

  • BMX races are sprint-style bicycle races that are approximately 30-40 seconds in length on a single-lap dirt track of about 300 to 400 metres in length. The track usually consists of a starting gate for up to eight racers, a groomed, serpentine, dirt racecourse made of various jumps and rollers, and a finish line.  Bikes are designed small and fast and are ridden standing up. BMX racing became an Olympic sport beginning in 2008 in Beijing China.
  • Freestyle BMX is bicycle motocross stunt riding on BMX bikes. Riders execute tricks on obstacles such as walls, box jumps and spines.  They are given 60 seconds to perform acrobatics tricks and skills, with tricks scored on multiple aspects including difficulty, originality, execution, height, and creativity.  BMX freestyle will make its Olympic debit at Tokyo in 2021.
