Regrettably races sometimes need to be cancelled. The reasons for the cancellations can be varied: weather; the condition of courses, especially true for cyclocross and mountain bike events; the unavailability of commissaires; restrictions by landowners; and prohibited usage fees are just some of the reasons.
When it comes to weather related events our hands are tied; we do not want to put cyclists at risk nor do we want to permanently ruin trail systems or courses. The long term viability of race courses take precedent when it comes bike racing in Manitoba.
The MCA is run by volunteers and they are our greatest resource, having enough is one of our greatest challenges. Without commissaires a races cannot take. We are exploring all options to help events take place, but all the work can’t continue to be done by the same small group of people. You can help avoid these situations by becoming a commissaire; with enough commissaires the workload can be evenly distributed and the scheduling of events can be guaranteed.
