Grassroots Youth Athlete Development
The MCA youth development programs have experienced significant growth since their inception many years ago. We are now experiencing gaps in the the number of trained club coaches available to deliver grassroots programming at the club level to ensure a strong and continuous feeder program for Team Manitoba.
The MCA is looking to engage stakeholders within our cycling club community who are interested in working with the MCA to further develop our youth programs at the grassroots level. By working together we believe we can help strengthen our youth programs, clubs, and support the long-term future of cycling in Manitoba.
MCA’s goal is to develop our athletes based on a 7-stage Canadian model of Long-term Athlete development (LTAD): a training, competition, and recovery program based on developmental age. Our vision is to position young local cyclists for podium finishes at the Provincial, National, and International level.
With the 2017 “Centennial” Canada Summer Games coming to our Province in just 4 years, cycling has an amazing opportunity to highlight our sport, and position local youth for podium results. This will be a exciting multi-sport games that will attract over 240 events, 3000 athletes, 450 officials and 6000 volunteers to Manitoba. Cycling will be represented in Mountain biking, Road racing, Criterium, and ITT. Whether our youth are competing or just inspired by the Games this will be an opportunity for your club to be part of the building blocks that will path the road to success for many athletes.
Thanks in advance for supporting Youth development in Manitoba.
