CLARA HUGHES JOINS MANITOBA SPORTS HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CLASS OF 2012

WINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame is thrilled to announce that one of the best athletes in the world, Clara Hughes, will join its class of 2012 inductees at the 33rd Annual Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies presented by RBC Royal Bank.

“Not only is Clara an exceptional athlete but also a tremendous role model for our province and deserves the highest honour we can bestow upon her,” said Jeff Hnatiuk, President and CEO, Sport Manitoba.  “When she announced her retirement we felt that it was important to honour her unparalleled athletic career as quickly as we could.”

“As one of the greatest Canadian athletes of all time, and the only athlete in the world to win multiple medals in both a summer and winter Olympics, this was an easy decision.” stated Don Pincock, President, Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.  “Clara has been contributing to our museum collection for a number of years and her induction was just a matter of time.”

On November 3, 2012, Hughes will join five athletes, two builders and two teams as part of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame 33rd Annual Induction Ceremonies presented by RBC.
