Sport Manitoba in partnership with the 2016 Steinbach Host Society and Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries IMPACT Program are proud to announce the Power Smart Manitoba Games Coach Seminar in Steinbach, Manitoba. The seminar will take place September 18 – 19, 2015 to kick off National Coaches Week in Canada!
The seminar aims to develop coaches using sport specific session as well as sport generic sessions that have cross over from sport to sport. The seminar will focus on the sports involved in the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games. Sessions will range from taping and strength training to bike maintenance for cycling coaches and high performance catching skills for softball coaches.

Coaches who have already been selected or will potentially coach at the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games, along with coaches in Steinbach and the surrounding area are eligible to attend the seminar. The morning sessions at the seminar will meet the requirements for NCCP certified coaches to gain Professional Development (PD) points.

PSMG & Community Coach – Basic Bike Mechanics for Coaches

This basic bike mechanics training course is a 3 hour hands on interactive clinic. It is designed to teach coaches the essentials of maintaining bikes before, during and after training and racing. The goal of this workshop is to introduce the coach to specific skills so they can provide the best support to their athletes and teams.

Session topics:

  • Basic principles of bike mechanics
  • Basic tool kit and spare parts coaches should have (for travel to races and training)
  • Maintenance and servicing: changing a flat, chain maintenance, repair and replacement, adjusting a thread less headset and more if time allows
  • On the fly wheel maintenance
  • Pre-race inspection
  • Positioning on the bike
