Seeking Nominations

Every day, Canadian communities benefit immensely from volunteer work. Individuals, businesses and not-for-profit organizations from across the country volunteer time, energy and expertise that help improve the well-being of families and communities.

These people and organizations help their communities in an endless variety of ways. For example, individuals and groups of volunteers coach and help to organize activities for children with disabilities. Many businesses and corporations organize events to generate donations to charitable organizations. Not-for-profit organizations implement innovative models that provide new opportunities for youth at risk. These are only a few of many examples of how volunteers help to build stronger Canadian communities.

The Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards celebrate these Canadians who make a difference. A total of 17 awards are given at both the regional and national level. Award recipients are recognized at a ceremony and can identify an eligible not-for-profit organization to receive a grant for $5,000 (regional award) or $10,000 (national award). However, award recipients must first be nominated by someone.

Last year, over 750 individual volunteers, groups of volunteers, businesses and not-for-profit organizations were nominated for the awards. With almost half of all Canadians volunteering, there are many more volunteers who deserve to have their contributions recognized.

Show your appreciation for the contributions they make to our communities by submitting a nomination. This year’s call for nominations is open between December 20, 2012, and March 1, 2013.
