THEME – PATHWAY TO POLICY

Often the activation of Long-Term Development and physical literacy relies on a champion or individuals who have bought in and fully understand the importance of quality sport principles. But when these people leave, will quality sport and physical literacy be sustained? In the journey to 2021, the core concepts of Long-Term Development including physical literacy, quality sport, inclusion, and lifelong accessibility are becoming the new normal in programming sport and physical activity. Now we need to embed Long-Term Development policies into all sport- and physical activity-related organizations – from local to national, and throughout the health and education sectors. The time is now to move beyond being dependent on individual champions to where quality experiences FOR ALL are entrenched within policies to ensure organizations sustain best practices.
