Bruxelles Spring Classic – Road Race

Times:

  • Registration: 10:30 – 11:30
  • Event #1: Cat 3, 2, 1 – 12 p.m.
  • Event #2: Cat 4 – 12:05 p.m.
  • Event #3: Cat 5/Citizen – 12:10 p.m.
  • Event #4: Mountain bike category – 12:15 p.m.
  • Event #5: “Tour” category (non-competitive) – 12:20 p.m.
  • Registration: Registration opens at 10:30 and ends 30 minutes before your event. You must hold a UCI/CCA racing licence or a MCA citizen licence. Registration and waiver forms are available online and at the race site. Please download the form and waiver, fill out and bring the completed form and waiver to the race.

    Cost: $25 for pre-registration, before April 22nd, $40 the day of the race for those holding a UCI/CCA/MCA license. Free citizens holding a MCA citizen license. You must have either a UCI/CCA/MCA race license or MCA citizen licesne. Cash and cheque only. Make cheques out to the Olympia Cycling Club

    Distances to be Covered:

    • Cat 5: 1 lap (20 – 31 km)*
    • Cat 4: 2 laps (40-62 km)*
    • Cat 1, 2, 3: 3 laps (60-93 km)*
    • “Tour”: 1 lap (20 – 31 km)*

    *lap length will be determined by weather and road conditions

    Amenities: The community hall will be open and you can change in the washrooms in the hall. There will be beverages and food available in the hall after the race starts. Racers will be given a ticket for food and  a beverage (included with your registration). There will also be post-race entertainment.

    Race Course: The course will between 20 and 31km in length. The length will be determined by the weather for that day. The surface will  be 95% gravel roads (they may be hard packed or loose), 4% dirt road, and 1% pavement. It will be a wide open, rolling with sweeping corners. There will be between 5 and 7 climbs, some reaching a 10% grade. The course will go through the village.

    Race Regulations:
    There will be a wheel exchange vehicle on the course following the racers. Road and cyclocross bikes are allowed. Mountain bikes without bar-ends are permitted in the Open category. All bikes must have functional front and rear brakes.

    Riders are required to wear a hard-shell ANSI or SNELL approved helmet while racing, warming up, and cooling down.

    Parking:
    Parking is available in the parking lot at the community hall and roads in the village.

    Courtesy and Safety:
    The course is open and the public can access the course at any point. Signs will indicate that bike race is in progress , but marshals do not have authority to prevent people from entering the course. Keep your head up at all times. Be courteous to all vehicles and pedestrians.

    Washrooms:
    Washrooms will be open with running water. We are responsible for returning the change rooms at the community hall to their original state. If you track mud in or dirty the sink, etc. please clean up after yourself.

    Race Map:

    Bruxelles Spring Classic #1 – this course will be used in good weather conditions, this course is about 31kms in length.

    Bruxelles Spring Classic #2 – this course will be used if the weather conditions leading up to the race have been wet, this course is about 23km in length

    Bruxelles Spring Classic #3 – this course will be used if it is raining the day of the race, this course is about 20km in length.
